I chose Mariel Roberts to make the arrangement for my song ‘The Way’ because of her ability to completely deconstruct a tune and change it into something you have never heard before. Originally trained as a classical cellist, Mariel uses her instrument in a very unconventional way. The vibe of her music is something so clever and thoughtful, yet so complex that you just have to sit down and really listen to it to understand it. ‘The Way’ has that kind of mentality. Even though you might think otherwise, every part of every instrument was written down, and as all the parts of the string quartet were recorded and I finally put everything together, I started to see the importance of this piece: without chaos, there is no order. This is an intricate piece of art that demands our attention.
